Money Maker
January 4, 2007Ludacris “Money Maker”
From the Album: Release Therapy
I really like the music to this song alot, especially the intro sample that sounds like a movie sound effect or something. And the way producer Pharrel Williams brings that theme back in later in the song! The beat is real nice. However, the lyrical content leaves much to be desired.
Luda- the way you’re encouraging this girl to display herself is nothing less than obscene. Ephesians 5:3 says “But among you there must not be even a hint of sexual immorality…”(NIV). The apostle Paul urges young women to be this way (in the context of worship): “I also want women to dress modestly…” (1 Timothy 2:9). Does this mean it’s OK to dress with your rear out at all other times? No, of course not.
I have to laugh aloud at the following lyrics:[ these lyrics found on http://www.completealbumlyrics.com ]
Let me give you some swimming lessons on the penis
Backstroke, breaststroke, stroke of a genius
Yepp call me the renissance man get up and
I stay harder then a cinderblock man
I can’t remember the last rap song where I’ve heard the word “penis!” It took a lot of guts to use that word rather than the plethora of other words that could’ve been used.
I looked up the definition of “renaissance” at www.dictionary.com, the one I’m guessing Luda is going for is: “A revival of intellectual or artistic achievement and vigor. ” If mentioning his penis is the very definition of a renaissance man, we are in trouble!
Renaissance also means “a revival of skills previously forgotten,” according to Webster’s. Perhaps Luda means that he’s got skills in bed that other men can’t even imagine. Which, of course, is still objectionable, but I think “intellectual or artistic achievement” is tangential.
Bri, that’s an interesting take. I never thought of that before! If THAT’s what Luda means by “Renaissance,” it’s still pretty embarrassing.
Robert, I totally agree with the amount of guts that Luda had in order to use something so vulgar. I can’t think of any other song that used it, either! Every time I read this post, it makes me wonder if Ludacris is even slightly embarrassed because of what he sang. I also think it’s horridly funny!
