OK, OK, this is a cute song, Taylor Swift has a cute voice, and all the pieces are in place. But why do I feel uncomfortable with the content of the lyrics?
This song is very similar to the style of Country songs that Lonestar makes- down home, every day, girl next door Americana. “What’s wrong with it?” you may ask. Well, this “sneakin’ out late” isn’t good. Who are you sneaking away from, your parents? Would they be happy to know that you’re sneaking out? And this speaking slow on the phone ’cause it’s late and your mamma don’t know’. Then at the end of the chorus, Taylor asks God if he can do it all again.
Exodus 20:12 (the 5th commandment) states: “Honor your father and your mother, so that you may live long in the land the LORD God is giving you.”
That’s all I have to say. Doesn’t really make sense that Taylor is praying that she can sneak around her mom, does it?
Taylor Swift has so much talent. Her voice is great. (“Teardrops on My Guitar,” anyone?) For whatever reason, I happen to identify it with one of the Dixie Chicks. It’s too bad, though, that she doesn’t share the kind of wholesomeness that Lonestar has in some of his work.
I totally hear with what you’re saying–it’s subtle, this uncomfortable feeling–but it’s there! I don’t get it. Ah, well.
There’s nothing wrong with Taylor’s lyrics. To say that there would be, in my opinion, would just be nit-picking to find something that’s wrong. Ask the most well-behaved teenager, and if they are being honest, then chances are that they have snuck out at some point. I wasn’t a bad teen, but I snuck out of my house a couple of times as a teenager. Not to do anything bad. I just sat on the back patio with my boyfriend talking. She’s describing the very real emotions that you feel when you have that puppy love. Don’t try to make it something it’s not.

Hey have you heard the song “Change” by Taylor Swift? It sounds as if it has some biblical meaning as well.
I mean the music video contradicts biblical meaning. Sorry, I should’ve been clearer.
