“Photograph” by Nickelback
From the Album: “All the Right Reasons”
So I’m at the gym and they have “MTV Hits” on the TV’s around the place. They’re doing viewer requests or something, and a girl comes on to introduce “Photograph” by Nickelback. She says she likes the song because the lyrics are deep.
My ears perk up to such a pronouncement, so I listen to the words carefully, which honestly I’d never done before even though I heard the song many times!
I like the music to the song and I think the singer, Chad Kroeger, has a great rock voice.
I wouldn’t say the lyrics are very deep, but they’re cute sometimes:

I was so nervous that I nearly missed
The only thing I have to say about the lyrics to this song is that it’s a reminder of the futility of this life. Yeah, Chad is reminiscing about the “good old days.” There are many, many, rock songs that are a lot like this. (Bon Jovi’s “Never Say Goodbye”, Bruce Springsteen’s “Glory Days”, Bryan Adam’s “Summer of ’69″, to name a few. OK, so I’m dating myself! These were the first to come to mind.) Living in the past. Little hope for a wonderful future.
Moses had this to say about life: “The length of our days is seventy years- or eighty, if we have the strength; yet their span is but trouble and sorrow, for they quickly pass, and we fly away.” (Psalm 90:10 NIV) So true!
What’s your hope for the future? Hell? Where “there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth?” (Matt. 13:42). Or Heaven? Jesus said “In my Father’s house are many rooms…I am going there to prepare a place for you. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back and take you to be with me that you also may be where I am.” (John 14:3) Is he coming back to take YOU to be where he is? Not if you don’t repent from your sins and trust Him alone for salvation.
